The graduate will understand storage and retrieval methods for structured and unstructured data in the environments of the web, relational and non-relational databases, as well as knowledge representation frameworks such as graphical probabilistic models or formal ontologies.
The graduate will also be familiar with software techniques for processing big data and for knowledge discovery from data through statistical, machine-learning, data-mining and visualization approaches.
